These photos appear to show people being arrested for peaceful protest in London.
So, are we a democracy or have we in fact not progressed past feudalism?
What’s that one quote about how conservatives only ever support gun control when it’s about any kind of minority owning the guns?
The organisers of the Not My King protest in London have been arrested. Police refuse to say what for.
Worth mentioning to anyone going to Edinburgh today - England recently introduced much harsher anti-protest laws. These laws don’t exist in Scotland.
As someone going through the cost of living crisis, literally choosing which days to eat and which to not, which days to heat the house and water, and which to not - this coronation is a joke.
The money could have gone to way better causes, not even for the people like me who are better off. But for those who are literally dying.
Fun fact!
The coronation celebrations today were in part paid for by money that would otherwise have been spent on foodbanks.
Fuck the royals, fuck the lords, and fuck the capitalist state that preserves their power. How long, how long, until the people can be free?
Living in the UK right now is enough to bring me to tears. I’m never going to be able to afford a home and renting alone may result in me having to starve myself to pay bills and we’re taxed at every damn opertunity so that our money can be used to line the government pockets and pay for a giant party for a man born with more money than the vast majority of people will even be able to look at. I weep for the homeless and less fortunate than me.
I am so tired of issues in the UK being used as a point scoring game against British, or if you’re marginally more socially aware, English people and acting like we all support the terrible status quo.
British poor people are the ones who suffer because of so much money being spent on the coronation when it should have gone to them. British people are the ones who actually have to live under a monarchy and deal with the repercussions of that. British trans people are the ones who are victimised by British transphobia.
And yet, people online like to pretend that all British people have the same class interests and use our political issues as nothing more than a point scoring game with no solidarity with the people living here.
This is all just bourgeoisie nationalism, which is the belief that all people who share a national identity have the same interests regardless of class, as opposed to proletarian internationalism, which is the belief that the working class around the world have more in common then they do with the rich in their own countries.
